Bollywood has always captured the hearts of cinephiles the world over. People have been turning to Bollywood dance to stay fit while being entertained. Item numbers are a dime a dozen these days and while some people feel that these songs objectify women, they continue to be watched by men and women alike. For a few years now, Bollywood dance classes have been popular. I remember that several years ago, Shiamak Davar was one of the known names among dance coaches. My college friend who has learned Bharatanatyam used to conduct classes for Bollywood Dance in the U.S. In Bangalore, too, another college friend attended Bollywood Dance classes at a leading fitness centre (before the lockdown).
Here’s a Bollywood Dance Routine I found off the internet. It features the catchy ‘Lovely’ from 'Happy New Year', a song I’ve always loved.
In Indian weddings, they often dance to Bollywood dances for the “sangeet” function. In Bollywood movies, we often see the heroine dance to songs and capture the hero’s heart, such as in Rangde or Nimbooda.
It so happens that in both these cases, Ajay Devgn plays the hero who is entranced by the heroine.
A couple of decades ago, the song Chamma Chamma became a super hit, so much so that it was featured in the Hollywood movie Moulin Rouge by Baz Luhrmann. Now the song has undergone a remix version in Hindi, too.
These days, during the coronavirus lockdown, dance companies are conducting Skype/Zoom classes for their clients remotely. Some companies are also doing it as a part of their employee welfare/satisfaction initiatives to ensure that their employees stay engaged and fit during the lockdown.
Women-centric online platforms, too, often conduct dance competitions for their members so that members can display their skills. They are asked to send in videos. Several TV channels, too, have dance competitions being conducted to attract talent from all over. It has become a part of our lives.
What better way to stay fit than to groove to catchy tunes and totally get footloose? I’ve never tried Bollywood dance classes so far. But it looks like an interesting way to stay fit and healthy!
Yes Bollywood dances are great to indulge in for fitness and hobby.
ReplyDeleteMust try it some day:)
ReplyDeleteWhen nothing feels right, I sometimes just put on the radio and dance. Nothing gives instant relaxation as bollywood dances do!
ReplyDeleteNice! I listen to music at such times. Sometimes, it also helps to just lie still for a while...
